Hong Kong Disneyland brings its "magic at work" to China
Hong Kong Disneyland participates in the Guangzhou International Trade Fair for the first time ever
GUANGZHOU (March 27, 2004) - Hong Kong Disneyland kick started its marketing and sales in China by participating in the 2004 Guangzhou International Trade Fair, where the theme park gave South China's travel trade and travelers a taste of its "magic at work".
Set to open in late 2005 or early 2006, Hong Kong Disneyland sees great potential in the China market. "Hong Kong Disneyland is The Walt Disney Company's most important project in Asia," commented Roy Tan Hardy, Vice President, Marketing and Sales, Hong Kong Disneyland. "It will be the first Disneyland theme park in China and the fifth worldwide. Phase one construction for the theme park commenced in January 2003 and is on schedule."
"Hong Kong Disneyland will become the hottest travel destination in Hong Kong and Asia and will bring tremendous business opportunities to the mainland tourism market," Hardy added. "More than 8 million mainland travelers visited Hong Kong in 2003. That number is expected to grow to 11 million this year, which would account for over 50% of Hong Kong's inbound tourists. We hope that, through this trade fair, we will cultivate good relationships with Chinese travel agents and begin to cooperate with them to develop the travel industry in China."
"Hong Kong Disneyland's guests will leave the world of today and be transported to new worlds of fun, fantasy and adventure, leaving children and adults alike with memories that will last a lifetime. We will create magical experiences for each and every guest and hope to work hand-in-hand with travel agents to market our unique, immersive travel destination and to bring new creativity to business and marketing."
Hong Kong Disneyland was highly regarded by the organizers of the Guangzhou International Trade Fair. Ma Xiang Cheng, Deputy Director of the Guangzhou Tourism Bureau joined Roy Tan Hardy for a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Hong Kong Disneyland booth and delivered a short speech. During his speech, Ma expressed his hope that the local travel industry would leverage this golden opportunity to work with Hong Kong Disneyland and make Guangzhou one of China's most successful tourism markets.
The Hong Kong Disneyland project was announced in November 1999 as a venture between The Walt Disney Company and the Hong Kong SAR Government and expects 5.6 million guests in opening year. Its opening day program will feature a Disneyland theme park, two themed hotels and retail, dining and entertainment facilities. Hong Kong Disneyland will include Main Street, U.S.A. and three themed lands - Fantasyland, Adventureland and Tomorrowland, and two themed hotels, the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel and Disney's Hollywood Hotel, offering a total of 1,000 rooms just minutes from the theme park. Inside the theme park, guests will enter a fairytale kingdom that celebrates the spirit of fantasy, the world of tomorrow and a sense of adventure. Guests will find a magical place where they can meet many of the beloved Disney characters, journey to exotic jungles and blast off on soaring science fiction space adventures. Disney Fairytale Weddings will be a featured offering at the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel, allowing guests to get married in true Disney fashion at the theme park resort.
After launching its marketing activities in South China at the Guangzhou International Trade Fair, Hong Kong Disneyland hopes to foster relationships with the trade in China and create more partnership opportunities.

About Hong Kong Disneyland
The Hong Kong Disneyland project was announced in November 1999 as a venture between The Walt Disney Company and the Hong Kong SAR Government.
